Got a clogged drain? We'll clear it fast β and tell you the price first.
A slow drain is easy to ignore β until it backs up completely and you've got water sitting in your sink, tub, or shower. Kansas City homes deal with drain clogs constantly: grease buildup in kitchen lines, hair and soap in bathroom drains, and tree roots working their way into older sewer laterals. Poor John's clears drains of all sizes with professional-grade equipment, and we'll tell you honestly if the problem is something bigger than a clog.
We use professional-grade drain cleaning equipment sized to the job:
Kitchen drain clogs in Kansas City homes are almost always caused by grease, fat, and cooking oil accumulation. Even with regular hot water flushing, grease sticks to the inside of pipe walls and builds up over years until the pipe narrows significantly. Once a kitchen line is slow, a snake alone often clears just enough to restore flow temporarily β the grease coating stays on the walls and the blockage returns within weeks.
For recurring kitchen drain problems, hydro-jetting is the more thorough solution. It scours the pipe walls clean rather than just poking a hole through the buildup.
Bathroom sink and tub/shower drain clogs are almost universally caused by hair accumulation combined with soap scum. A drain screen or hair catcher prevents most of these clogs. When the drain is already slow, a cable machine typically clears bathroom clogs quickly. If the clog is deep in the line or recurring, a camera inspection will confirm whether there's a structural issue contributing to it.
If multiple fixtures are backing up simultaneously, the problem is in your main sewer lateral β the line that runs from your home to the city sewer in the street. Main line clogs in older Kansas City neighborhoods are frequently caused by tree root intrusion, as roots are attracted to the moisture and nutrients inside sewer pipes and can infiltrate through joints and cracks over time.
A main line clog requires professional clearing and often a camera inspection to assess the extent of root intrusion or pipe damage. If roots have been cleared before and keep coming back, sewer line repair or lining may be the longer-term solution.
Poor John's charges a flat rate of $229 for drain cleaning with access. No hourly guessing, no trip charge. If we run a camera to inspect the line, that's an additional $200. See our full prices page for all flat-rate costs.
